Books were scarce in SE-Asia where Sapphire Chow grew up, so her love for KidLit wasn’t sparked until she had her own children in Canada. She embarked on her author journey as a BIPOC writer with the intention of producing stories that would not only bring joy and entertainment to children worldwide, but also sustain and feed the imagination of growing minds. Sapphire’s debut picture book Message in the Mooncake published with Barefoot Books in October 2024 and won Best Children's Books of the Year, Bank Street College, 2025.
