Dunham Literary represents a few illustrators of children's books. Most of
our illustration clients also write their own books as we are primarily a
literary agency rather than an artists' representative.

Submitting Illustrations
If you would like to be considered as a Dunham Literary client, please send a
query letter first (please see the query information). If we request samples of
your art, please send six or more photocopies of illustrations. It's preferable
that the illustrations be appropriate for children's books with children and
animal characters rather than samples of spot illustrations in magazines or
advertisements. As with query letters and manuscript submissions, please send
the customary self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) for the response. If you
would like the samples back, make sure that the envelope is large enough for the
samples as well as our response.
 | Do not submit original artwork. We are not responsible for any originals. |
 | Include a series of at least 3, preferably more, illustrations in a series
showing the same characters in different scenes. It is fine to create this
series from a well known story. |
 | We realize that the color in photocopies will be altered from the original
artwork. We look at photocopies everyday, and we are keenly aware of this.
There is no need to tell us about it or to show us the original work
instead. |
 | We strongly prefer color copies to slides. We do not view slides with a
projector. |

Terms and Services
We have the same commission rate for illustration clients as for writing
clients, but we ask that the illustrator provide us with illustration samples
for submitting to publishers. We do not take out advertisements on behalf of our
clients.
We do not keep illustrations samples on file that are not created by our
clients. |
